Neolithic Stone Age

In Social Studies we we're learning about the two different stone age's, Neolithic and Paleolithic.
We had to make a poster about one of the stone age's with the information with had been given by Mr Wilson.
Here's my poster -

Essay Writing.

Have you ever experienced an event that changed your life? In (A) John Avildsen’s (T) ‘The Power of One’, (K) a moment that changes the main character PK’s life is when his beloved pet chicken ‘Mother Courage’ was strung up and killed by his schoolmates. (O) This is shown by the way PK loses not only his chicken, but his symbol of courage and friendship, his ability to not hold the actions of one against a whole race and how he learns to stand up to people who are bigger than him.

[S]When Pk’s chicken ‘Mother Courage’ is killed, PK loses his symbol of courage, his only remaining family and his only friend at school. [E] In this scene, Borta the school bully tries to blame the English for the killing of Africanas families in concentration camps in South Africa. He claims that Hitler will punish the English for their actions, and that he will punish the English too, starting with PK by killing his chicken. He has the chicken strung up on a rope by its legs and kills it by firing a stone at its chest using a slingshot. {X} The chicken, ‘Mother Courage’ was given to PK by the witch doctor as a guide to help him find his courage and overcome his bed wetting. Therefore, when the chicken is killed, PK’s symbol of courage is killed with it and PK will now have to be courageous on his own. PK had also lost his father and mother, so the chicken was the only family he had left when he went back to boarding school. In this way we see the character of PK change as he learns to live without family and friends, and find his own source of courage. This links to later in the film when his boxing coach Geel Piet is killed by a guard and PK once again loses his friends and family.

{L}- In this way we see that PK has lost his symbol of courage, is only family and his friend.
(L)-In this way we see the character of PK change as he has to learn to live without family and friends, and find his own source of courage.

Another way the character of PK is developed as a result of the death of his chicken is that he is able to forgive and not hold grudges against a whole race of people for the actions of a few. At this point in the film, we see that the Africana boys hold a grudge against all English because of the actions of some in the past. When they killed his chicken, PK could follow their example and hate all Africanas because of Borta and his friends, but he chooses to embrace people of different cultures and only blame the person for their actions not the race. The director includes this scene to let the audience know that PK as an English man will face difficulties from the Africanas throughout his life. This links to later in the film when PK wants to date Maria, but her father will not allow it because PK is English and Maria is an Africana. PK choses to date her anyway, because he looks beyond a person's race.

The event that changed PK’s life was when his chicken ‘Mother Courage’ was killed by Borta and the Africana boys at his school. As a result of this incident PK had to learn to find his courage from within, to make new family and friends, to treat all peoples with respect regardless of their race, and to stand up for the things he believes in. In this way, we can see the importance of this scene in the overall film.

Technology use

I believe that students are addicted to their cellphones , Not everyone but majority of them are. This is because technology is more interesting these days with all the social medias and it just attracts a heap load of people. For example everyone is on their phones these days. Some people don't even see their friends because there always on their phones. People are less social in person because there always on their phone worrying about what happens online. Those are the reasons I believe students are addicted to phones but not all of them.

S.E.X.X.Y Paragraphs Assessment

S.E.X.X.Y Paragraphs

The Film aspect high angle shot is used skillfully.
It is skillful because it shows you a the sum of people that are in the gym and also the boxers in the ring.
The director did this to show where they were and what they were doing just so it makes more sense.
This made the audience feel excited to see what happens next.
This aspect can be compared to when all the Africans were in the jail singing for the Afrikaners.

The film aspect “medium shot” was used effectively because It showed a clear picture of a lovely teenager.
We see this when the camera is showing the half of the body of someone.
The director did this to show us that the girl was about to become part of the story in the movie.
This made the audience feel excited to see her role and who she is.
This can be compared to in all the Fast and Furious movies when they spot someone.

The film aspect close up shot was used cleverly because It would make you feel some way about this scene.
We see a little boy or teenager that has gotten beaten up or something like that.
The purpose of this was to make us feel sad for the boy that had gotten bashed.
This aspect can be compared to when in the action movies someone has died or passed out so they zoom in on their face.

This film aspect is known as a mid shot , It was used beastly because there can be a lot of meanings behind the photo.
We see that there is a guy with a gun and he is also pointing it at someone.
The director did this to show us the guy’s facial features , you can see how he feels about the situation by looking at his face.
This made the audience feel either happy or sad for the guy with the gun because he’s either shooting someone good or bad.
This scene can be compared to in all the action movies where the good guy is pointing a gun at the bad guy.

The film aspect high angled long shot is used magnificently.
We can see that Peekay really cares about his fellow African friend.
We see this when Peekay is crying on him because he had just been severely assaulted by the guard.
The director did this to make us feel sad for Peekay losing his friend.
This made us feel sorrow for the racism that was happening because they were not aloud to live free.

S.E.X.X.Y Paragraphs

My paragraph about this photo on the power of one -
.

This film aspect long shot is used effectively because you can see all of people in the jail and If shows the power the Afrikaners have over the Africans.A long is when the camera is further away and shows more than what a close shot would show. The Director did this to show the history between Afrikaners and Africans , who had the most power between the two.It would make the audience feel a bit of sorrow for the Africans since they don’t have much power and can’t fend for themselves. This aspect can be compared to at the start of the movie when it shows the view of his home where he was born.

This film aspect close up shot was used cleverly because It shows what the Afrikaners could do to the African and not get in trouble. We see this when the black prisoner is all bashed up by the guard. The purpose of this was to show what used to happen in apartheid. This made the audience feel bad for what the prisoner had went through and not like the guard. This aspect can be compared to when P.K was in the boys home and the bully spat on him.

What am I learning? To write a paragraph using the S.E.X.X.Y method.
How does this work show my learning? The paragraphs themselves
What am I wondering about? How can I do better.
