Word Vomit Week 8


In a house by the Ocean there was a dog in there named Clifford. One day he was curious about what was outside. So he decided to try get out , on his way trying to get out he knocked over a loaf of bread and a candlestick. He later jumped through the broken window that had been smashed by some naughty kids earlier on from the day.He got outside and went to the beach.He explored the whole city and just went on adventures. Later on he decided that he should go back home but also he didn’t want to because he was having so much fun not being trapped in the house.His owners never really took him out.

One day there was this magical candle and a dog. The dog took the candle out the house using the broken window that the owner had caused. They also brought a loaf of bread to snack on.They went to the beach by the ocean closest to them.

English : Film study


1. 
Which trailer do you like the most? I like the 2nd trailer which was called Mrs. Doubtfire - Horror
Explain why you liked the 2nd one more than the first : I liked the 2nd one more because it was more intense and exciting. The music would come in and give you that chill but also the little features in the scene switching was also good.

Which do you think is the original? I think the number 3 is because the number 4 trailer is more of a comedic one and the movie isn't suppose to be funny.

6. The different film aspects are used to show different meanings , True or false? True because the different aspects set the vibe of the movie. Like If it was a horror movie it would put different aspects of filming so it seems like a horror movie.The different aspects should know a meaning.

that i know are in the movie trailers.

The Power of One: Film Study
The First 10-15 Minutes
A typical film question will focus on those crucial first 10-15 minutes! Why? Because the director must catch and hold your attention in fifteen minutes or you won't watch the film.
Film Question: Explain how the filmmaker uses a range of film techniques to introduce such things as background, setting, character and themes in the first 10-15 minutes of a film you have studied. (NB. Film techniques include type of shots used, soundtrack, editing, etc.)
So how did Avildsen (the director of The Power of One)  manage to give you the background (especially historical background) plus introduce the setting plus introduce the characters plus the key ideas/themes?
To find out, you have to answer the questions below.

  • After watching the YouTube clip on the opening of films, answer the the questions below.
  • If you missed re-watching the first 15 minutes, use your headphones and Chromebook, re-watch the first 15 minutes of ‘The Power of One. Click HERE
  • After rewatching the first 15 minutes, answer the question below. The BLUE questions are for the audio or soundtrack and the RED questions are for the visuals aspects.  

The First 15 Minutes ২
1. Soundtrack: What sort of music? What impression does it give?
It seems to be native music. That this movie is gonna involve them.

2. Visual. What is the first shot of?
A map of Africa to introduce where this was taking place.

3. Visual. What camera technique is then used to “focus” us on the area of interest?
Long shot , Establishing shot


4. Visual. Written text scrolls onto the screen. What key information are we given here?
That in the 1680’s the Europeans fled to South Africa , They named themselves Afrikaners (White Africans) , They were put into power which left a racist trail for years.

5. Visual. A dissolve is then used on the shot. What to? What effect?
It dissolved to giraffes on the Safari ,  

6. Visual. What landscape do we pan over?
A house in the middle of nowhere

7. Audio. Soundtrack: Whose voice? What film technique? What key information is given here about character?. What effect?
The Child “P.K” , Establishing shot , Where he was born. , Voice over

8. Visual. Shots: There are a number of medium shots of PK being born and then with his Nanny, mother and Tonderai. What shots strongly shows the respect PK’s mother has with the nanny?
When they’re smiling at eachother , When the nanny hands the baby to the mother

9. Visuals: What medium shot shows racial harmony?
When the nanny is breastfeeding the other baby instead of her own first.

10. Audio. PK's voice-over: “For the first time in my life, I felt afraid.” Here the key theme of fear is introduced. Where else in the film must he face fear of some sort? (2 egs)
The bullies that he is about to face. The fact that he is english and the people at the school do not like the english. His mum passing away


11. Visual.Shot: 1.Close Up on face of PK as his mother hugs him goodbye. What emotion is shown by this Close Up 2.also, CU on Nanny a little later — what emotion?).

The Emotion being shown is sad. 2. Sad because she is gonna miss P.K


12. Visual. Symbolism: PK's mother gives him an ostrich shell bracelet. What does it symbolise for her? How is it used later in the film?

It symbolizes that it was one of the things that her husband had given her before he passed away.

13. Audio. To a school run by Afrikaners. What do we learn from the preacher's speech ? (soundtrack/screenplay).
That they do not like the english cause they believe they killed their people. They are racist.

14. Audio. PK's voiceover on his first lesson in history. What do we learn about the Afrikaners? Why does PK take the blame for this?
That the Afrikaners hate the english.
PK takes the blame for this because he is partly english.

15. Visual. Shot: CU on Botha. How does he express his contempt for PK
By giving him a dirty look and spitting on him.

16. Visual (and Audio) Theme of racism: How is PK punished for being English?
He is mistreated and bullied because he is partly english.

17. Visual. Botha the bully: Over the shoulder shot, from the point of view of PK, low angle, emphasises what?
Emphasises that PK is smaller and weaker than his bullies. Shows how powerless he is against them because of his size.

What am i learning? To figure out the filming techniques in the moving and describing what they and how they are being used.

Heartburn & Indigestion

Definition of Heartburn:
The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Heartburn is usually due to regurgitation of gastric acid (gastric reflux) into the esophagus and is the major symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In about 0.6% of cases it is a symptom of ischemic heart disease.

Definition Indigestion:
Indigestion can be pain or discomfort in your upper abdomen (dyspepsia) or burning pain behind the breastbone (heartburn). Dyspepsia and heartburn may occur together or on their own. Symptoms usually appear soon after eating or drinking. Common associated symptoms include: feeling full or bloated.

Science : Neutralisation

In Science we were doing an experiment when we were trying to neutralize an acid (Hydrochloric Acid)

Aim: We were trying to make the Hydrochloric acid Neutral.

Equipment: Boiler tube , test tube rack , Universal indicator , Hydrochloric acid , baking soda

Method: We gathered up our gear
We got a Boiler tube (big one) and mixed the Hydrochloric acid and Universal Indicator together so It made a red colored liquid.
Then we added little bits of baking soda at a time to see the reaction.

Science: Finding the Ph levels



Aim: Finding the Ph levels of the acids and bases

Equipment:  Test tubes , a test tube rack , Hydrochloric Acid , Sodium Hydroxide , Universal Indicator , Phenolphthalein Indicator , Red litrus paper , Blue Litmus Paper and Universal Paper.

Method:
We gathered all the equipment together.
After i started off with adding the hydrochloric acid to all the litmus papers and recording my results
I then did filled the test tubes with acid and added the other indicators.
I did the same with the other chemicals.

Results:

Water:
Blue litmus: Normal
Red litmus: Normal
Universal indicator: Green
Phenolphthalein: Clear
Sodium Hydroxide:
Blue litmus: Purple
Red litmus: Purple
Universal Indicator: Purple
Phenolphthalein: Pink 



Hydrochloric Acid :
Blue litmus: Pink
Red Litmus: Orange
Universal Indicator: Purple/Red
Phenolphthalein: Clear
